Miyavi 20year Anniversary Tour

Miyavi 2022 Youniverse Tour

My YouTube channel wasn’t the only anniversary celebration to be had this year as Miyavi, a well known Japanese-Korean rockstar from Japan, was celebrating his 20 years as a guitarist and entertainer this year. People who may not be familiar with Jrock or the Visual Kei scene may recognize him in movies such as Maleficent, Unbroken, or the show Arcane. I haven't seen any of these yet.. so don't spoil it too much! ;)

Nick Cave @ Mca

A man willing to risk it all for his art. That is the man I went to go see give a talk about his recent installation at the MCA. Nick Cave's talk has been my 3rd artist talk of the year, and this one called out to me the most. I came across a book with photographs of his body of work and I was intrigued. I liked the playfulness of some of his designs and his take on issues as well. His colourful forms and patterns was refreshing to come across after having instilled the mindset of realism and achieving high levels of detail was most important than the joy one can receive when making artist pieces.

Some of the take aways from this interview was that he believes in working with materials AND people that you trust is so important. Nick also likes to have moments in solitude at his studio even with a team of competent assistants. As time has passed, his art work is still created with found materials from outside.

One aspect of his workflow that I admire deeply is his ability to jump into a project quickly without much preparation time or materials or the need to transport materials from his studio to an artist residency elsewhere. I am not sure the pace of his workflow, but to be able to not overthink the details so much surprises me.

Have you seen Nick Cave's body of work before? Share your comments! I'd love to hear from you!

Ashnikko Concert

Super late post but I enjoyed an Ashnikko concert after her Lollapolooza show.

She’s outspoken, has amazing blue hair and even did a collaboration with Hatsune Miku. What a legend!

Some of the songs I find quite catchy are Deal With It, Daisy 2.0 and Tantrum.

Thank you Ashnikko for the amazing energy you brought to Chicago.

Until next time.

Acen!

Acen was just last week, and I enjoyed myself. I met up with a lot of people, took in lots of advice from E and P , and spent time marveling over great cosplays.

I even helped finalize outfits, and tweaked hair and makeup.

The weekend wasn't too wild or crazy, but it was a little enjoyable.

Macy's 2017 Bridal Expo

Hello hello! Been booked with projects for a bit but wanted to pop a new post up!
The Macy's Bridal Expo was just a week ago, and it still feels extremely surreal! I got to choose two gowns to model for the event, 1 ball gown with gorgeous, delicate beading being worn for the runway.

Night Fall Gallery Exhibit

Night Fall

The Night Is a Wonderful Place

Night Fall Gallery

After a long week's work, I found myself at Rotofugi for a macabre-esque gallery opening. I felt at home surrounded by handcrafted moths atop skull halves, stylish soft felt bird skulls adorned with delicate glittering beads housed under glass jars and dark yet humorous sketches and sculptures of plump black crows.

Night Fall Gallery
Andrew and Lana Posterior Fontanelle

This was the combined worlds of Andrew Bell (New York) and Lana Crook (Chicago), and I was engulfed inside it.

They chatted with me about their work process, enlightening me on how they arrived at their final creations.

Night Fall Gallery,

I also met Dj. Sean Doe and Mini Marshmellow Man, Marshal too!

Lana's and Andrew's exhibit will continue until Dec. 31st.

PlayCHIC Fashion Show

Playchic fashion show was great and housed in the gorgeous Grand Ballroom at Navy Pier, with fashion designer Boris Powell and several others basing their designs off of well known and loved childhood games and toys, one being Twister!
Powell incorporated the playfulness of the game into the dress, having one actually being utilitarian, sliding off and becoming a Twister mat.

Gal Weekend pt2

This warm weekend was another meet up I decided to attend for a moment.
After work, I got dolled up, and headed on out for a night on the town.

Lisha's Banba, kurogyaru outfit

I went for a more banba-esque look with a dress that had a trippy, kaleidoscope print on it and light beige heels.

Super Gyaru Weekend

A few weekends ago, Eteria of Champagne Pop wrapped up another Harajuku Fashion Walk in the City of Chicago. It was a sweltering day, but the participants, decked out from head to toe to make the meet up and make a fashionable impression from the WaterTower to Millenium Park.

Friends and supporters, and even local camerapeople were there showing their appreciation of the event. Passerbys were astounded, some even wanting pictures with some of the stylish participants.

The weekend was concluded with a gal styled karaoke party and sleepover.

Stay tuned on the LishaMisha22 instagram, and twitter for upcoming events, panels, official merch and moments from behind the Gyaru Fashion blog of Chicago.

Networking Event

This weekend was an exciting one with various events that were held.

I started off the weekend at a yacht party, conversing and meeting with new people. I also reconnected with a few that I met at a previous event. It rained on Friday but it did not stop the wonderful time riding past the gorgeous buildings that were lined up by the river and added a touch of the dramatique to the fashion show.

There were also Dior models showcasing beautiful designs that piqued my interest (you can catch a snippet on my IG) .

After the yacht party, C's party and I made our way to Parliament, then Time for the amazing after party in River North. 🍸

Saturday Night Live

I got to play and experience indie games at Woman Made Gallery. The merging of an art space with indie games and tech themed art was a perfect combination.

Until next time!

Acen 2016 *picture upload problem

Acen 2016 weekend was upon us, and seemed to quickly pass, bringing us fun panels, shared times together, and goodies from the Dealers Hall. Having been going to Acen for quite a while now, it seemed a slightly calmer than the previous ones I’ve attended, which made the experience greater. I attended several panels, two hosted by Harajuku Fashion walk creator Eteria, and two with Voice Actress of Kaori Miyazono (from Your Lie in April)Erica Lindbeck and Voice Actor and Voice Director Patrick Seitz.
Eteria’s panels were filled with information about Jfashion, where to go to buy key pieces for your wardrobe for your style of choice, and even goodies for the raffle winners! She touched on topics about what helps bring any style together, which lashes work best for gyaru make up, and what the most important differences for each style were. Including pictures of Western gyaru in her Agepoyo! A Beginner’s Guide to Gyaru, she united worldwide gyaru fashion instead of separating lovers of the style.

Attending Erica’s and Patrick’s panels were thoroughly enjoyable, and what I took away from their panels were tips that sometimes I feel some people would rather not talk on, or even hilarious moments in their career. Patrick prefers voice acting for anime than games due to the fact that in anime, you can hook into your character more with a lot more context and emotional bonding. I had asked him about the challenges in his career that he has encountered and/or overcame. Since he does both voice acting and directing, he doesn’t have time for both. Not only that, but work-life balance isn’t much of a thing for him when he is taking on directing projects.

Erica was originally from Greenville, Carolina, living and working in traffic filled Los Angeles. She too is also one to be connected emotionally to her characters for voice acting. Drawing on past experiences and the real emotions attached helps her do her best work. Faking her emotions for her characters isn’t something that she does and wants to be authentic as possible. One of her tips was “Acting is about human experience” and encourages interested people to live life, and gather those experiences. If there was a reboot for any anime in the future, she would love to take on the roles of Julia or Faye Valentine from Cowboy Bepop.
