The Cost of Cute Heels

There’s no doubt that the right pair of shoes can bring a level of badassery to an outfit. Heels can be cool, cute, sexy, outrageous or even dark and mysterious. They come in various styles: heights, colours, with a platform or without, stiletto heel or chunky.

You know whats not hot? Foot pain!

Foot pain sucks!

Wearing heels for prolonged periods of time obviously can hurt at the end of the day, but why?

When wearing heels, your body and posture is shifted from its usual stance; you are more on your toes, and different muscles in your calves are activated. Your body weight is going to sit and be positioned differently on heels than in a pair of trainers; more so on the ball of the foot than distributed a little more evenly.

With the way the toe box of the shoe is made, your toes are crammed, causing further issues like bunions (forced bone deformation) and corns and callouses (hardened skin caused by constant rubbing against the shoe material).

Wearing tall high heels can also cause knee, back and ankle pain as well. Doesn’t seem so glamourous now, does it?

So… how can we prevent this or get around it?

Slippers!

Jem and The Holograms shows us her backups, her trusty chanclas, when her feet need a little break from her shiny, stunning shoes!

Some slippers look like ballerina flats that roll up to be tucked inside of your bag if space is a concern. Otherwise, you can throw in a regular pair of flip flops or flats to change into.

What’s your go to heel and slipper?
