Bounce Kogals & Commentary

I recently shared a graphic design mock up (2013) on TikTok  based on the movie Bounce Kogals by Harada (1997). It’s a film that I watched in college, around Diamond gyaru circle days (2010-2011) for a gals’ night in with a made from scratch Osakan themed dinner with a healthy side of natto. Delicious.✨

It’s a poignant story of Maki, a bold and strong willed ko Gyaru in the ever so iconic kogal uniform, and an adventurous young student, Lisa, whose lives intertwine and those that exploit them in Tokyo, Japan.

This film isn’t a happy go lucky, cutesy story like GALS!, or sad yet glamorous life as portrayed in ageha’s  Sakurina’s Girls Life. Its raw and unsettling atmosphere is a different vibe of how gal life is generally portrayed in the online comm, unless you start to dabble in the comm.

⚠️It contains themes and dialogue around mature and adult nature, distressing themes like abortion and violence, and NOT suitable for children under the age of 18.

Some of these themes have been mentioned briefly in my School Girl Inferno readings .⚠️

Side note:

When gyaru in the comm are upset with @kogyaru_official content, we understand (and some have unfortunately seen) how those young kids are being exploited not only due to the history that past gals (and women) faced, but the controversial content that is still being allowed that is detrimental to young developing girls/women in Japan.

Self expression is great, but is it when it’s at the expense of a young persons’ safety and mental health for a parent to make a quick buck or some views online?

Be safe and with love,

 Lisha 💖
